The enduringly popular G-A-Y remains one of London's defining gay institutions, especially among the under-25s. Started in 1976, the dance-and-cruise club spent most of its iconic years in Charing Cross Rd, in various sections of the London Astoria (a former cinema). Until the late 1980s the club night went by the name of Bang!, but was changed to G-A-Y in the early 1990s when taken over by Bang! DJ Jeremy Joseph. In 2008, anticipating the Astoria's much-protested demolition, Joseph...

Showtime Night
I went on a Tuesday night, so the crowd was not the greatest. But the Open Mic Show Tunes / Drag Show was tons of fun. Cant wait to go back on a more crowded night and dance.
Just not my kind of music
Ok, positive things first: The venue is big-ish. 3 dance floors. Lots of people, almost packed, people are in a good mood. Negative things? I just don't like the music. They did have a few songs I like, but it totally wasn't my thing. A friend took me there, so I couldn't help it. I guess I won't visit again. Too poppy, teeny, 80s... I wish they at least put some more beats in those tracks.
still going after all these years?
This place was hot in 88' last time we were in LONDON, I know its not relavent now, but what it does say is this club has staying power. It had a line then to get in, when we did the DJ noticed us and our style of dancing, had us come up to booth overlooking club, we thought that was cool that someone would pick us out to compliment us and want to chat. I remember it as being a pretty good size club. Heading to Europe in April, we would love to check out London Again.
