Attendant (Fitzrovia)

A lovingly reinvented late-Victorian underground toilet that opened in February 2013 as an instantly hip and intimate outlet for espresso-based coffees, breakfast (croissant, granola and buns involving salmon, avocado, bacon, cheese etc) and lunch (focaccia pizza slices, sandwiches, soups and salads). Former PR person Pete Tomlinson has made good use of the original tilling, urinals and cisterns, preserving the 19th-century essence of the space while totally transforming its function. Coffee, breads and pastries all hail from various reputable London sources. Located an eight-minute walk north of Soho, just around the corner from other Fitzrovian coffee hot spot Kaffeine [see entry]. Look for a black and most decorative ground-level entrance, just outside the Crown and Sceptre pub. Gimmicky but serious. Card only. Also in Shoreditch, Clerkenwell, Mayfair and Isle of Dogs.
