Andrew's Restaurant

A reassuringly old-fashioned, atmospheric and 'real'-feeling working man's café (pronounced 'caff'), Andrew's has been serving generous portions of decent and unadventurous food since before the Second World War. In 2004, its Italian proprietor of 47 years sold it to the current owner, a kindly Kurdish Turk. Prices are relatively tiny and the menu is huge, including all-day full-on English breakfasts (egg, bacon, sausage, chips, mushrooms, toast, mug of tea etc), roasts (lamb, beef etc), savoury pies, steaks, sandwiches, baked potatoes, pasta, risotto and signature Anglo combos such as liver, bacon & chips. Located just north of Theobalds Rd, immediately east of Bloomsbury and about a 15-minute walk south of Kings Cross. Appeals to a cross-section of diners, including manly labourers in soiled work gear. Owing to predatory property developers, Andrews was forced out of its space, but it didn't have to go far. In October 2020 it moved into a corner (and smaller) spot diagonally opposite. Tube stations: Holborn and Farringdon, then a ten-minute walk.
