MR JI SOHO CLOSED/MOVING TO CAMDEN

An establishment that is atypically foodie for Old Compton St (traditionally known for Italian, mainstream Far Eastern, comfort food, etc), Mr Ji is the domain of Taiwanese-inspired restaurateur Samuel Haim – following his pop-up hotspot in Camden Town in 2019 – and collaborators Ana Gonçalves and Zijun Meng, the duo behind neo-Asian pop-up Tā Tā Eatery. A reassuringly small space located diagonally opposite Comptons of Soho, Mr Ji specialises in small plates — notably daikon cake, prawn "in" toast and the signature spicy Sichuan chicken burger, all exquisite — plus cocktails and wines. It's a small menu, but rich. No phone number. Email only. Opened May 2021. A mildly pinky frontage, with subtle signage.
