Konditor (Waterloo) Formerly: Konditor & Cook

German chef Gerhard Jenne arrived on the London scene in 1993, when nearly all the old proper cake shops had been replaced by industrial chains pumping out cardboard cut-outs with icing on top. Now there are five outlets serving Jenne's high-quality, nearly always excellent cakes, biscuits and brownies, with a few quality lunchtime savouries (quiche, pizza etc.) a bonus. A few outlets have not survived, while this ultra-quaint street-corner original shop continues to thrive in Waterloo, close to the Old Vic. Plus the City (9 Bow Lane) and Chancery Lane (46 Grays Inn Rd). For several years Jenne has catered special events for BFI Flare (formerly London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival), including the cake at the festival launch. In 2019 he got into something of a scrape with the name of one of his celebrated brownies: the Fudge Packer. He also changed the name of his business from Konditor & Cook to simply Konditor.
